Mengapa Gayatri begitu disakralkan, dan apakah tidak ada mantra lain?

 

ASK: Gayatri adalah sebuah mantra yang menjadi penyebab lahirnya Weda, sehingga Gayatri juga disebut sebagai Weda Matta (Sumber Weda)

Tri Utami: Apakah hanya karena alasan itu saja Pak?

 

ASK: Tidak, Gayatri adalah sebuah mantra yang menyimpan rahasia alam semesta, dan yang paling disayangkan bahwa apa yang dipraktekkan masyarakat kami bukanlah Gayatri yang lengkap, melainkan hanya penggalan kedua dari yang disebut Maha Gayatri.

Tri Utami: Lantas mana yang disebut Gayatri yang sebenarnya, saya jadi ingin tau?

 

ASK: Gayatri yang sebenarnya adalah Maha Gayatri dan berisi 3 bait yang menjadi acuan lahirnya tiga waktu sholat (Sevana) dalam agama Hindu di dunia serta menyimpan rahasia keiilahian yang luar biasa.

Tri Utami: Hou jadi agama Hindu juga punya sholat dan waktu sholat seperti kami?

 

ASK: Mengapa tidak Mbak, karena jika di agama lain ada, sudah pasti Hindu juga punya. Umat Hindu pada dasarnya melakukan sholat 3 kali sehari yang disebut Trisandhya, hanya banyak teman-teman mengatakan sembahyang pagi Trisandhya, siang Trisandhya, dan sore juga Trisandhya, tanpa disadari menjadi 9 Sandhya.

Tri Utami: Apa sholat dalam bahasa Hindu-nya?

 

ASK: Sholat dalam bahasa Hindu-nya adalah Sevana. Jadi Sembahyang pagi kami sebut dengan Pratah Sevana (Brahma Muhurta) dari jam 3.30 pagi sampai jam 6.00, sembahyang siang disebut Madya Sevana waktunya dari jam 12.00 sampai 14.00 dan sembahyang sore disebut Sandhya Sevana dari jam 18.00 sampai jam 20.00 (kesemuanya menggunakan 6 rakaat dan 1 rakaat penutup )

Tri Utami: Kenapa pada Maha Gayatri terdapat tiga bait, apa ada alasannya?

 

ASK: Karena dalam Maha Gayatri tersimpan rahasia Ritual, rahasia Religy dan Rahasia Spiritual, serta menyimpan rahasia 7 alam yang kami sebut dengan Sapta Loka.

Tri Utami: Apa ada penjelasan yang lebih terprinci ??

 

ASK: Pasti Mbak, Gayatri adalah doa universal yang ada dalam Veda, dan Gayatri adalah sari pati ajaran Veda, karena empat pernyataan dasar yang dikandung oleh empat Veda (Catur Veda) diwujudkan dalam Gayatri mantra, dan mantra ini juga dianggap perwujudan dari semua dewa-dewi, sehingga tidak menjadi milik satu sekte atau aliran tertentu dan hanya mantra ini yang dapat menyatukan ratusan aliran (Samprathaya) yang terdapat di dalam agama Hindu. Gayatri adalah inti sarinya Veda (Veda Matta). Gayatri menyimpan tiga kekuatan suci yang dilambangkan oleh Gayatri, Sawitri dan Saraswati. Ketiga Dewi suci ini juga dalam bahasa Sanskerta disebut dengan Tri Uttami, Tri artinya tiga dan Uttami artinya suci, tahukah Mbak??

Tri Utami: Tidak, baru sekarang aku mendapatkan rahasia dan arti dari namaku.

 

ASK: Benar, jadi energi kesucian inilah yang telah mengalirkan syair yang akan Mbak nyayikan pada Dharma Shanti Nasional 2008, selamat ya Mbak.

Tri Utami: Kalau demikian apakah Gayatri mantram mempunyai tata cara pengucapannya?

 

ASK: Pasti Mbak, contoh: Dewasya, itu sebenarnya harus disebut dengan Dhe, dan itu diatur dengan letak lidah kita harus di mana.

Tri Utami: Apakah cara pengucapan mempunyai pengaruh?

 

ASK: Sudah pasti, pengaruh ada pada vibrasi keillahiannya.

Tri Utami: Saya yakin Guruji dapat menjelaskan fungsi gayatri yang lebih dalam?

 

ASK: Tentu, tapi tolong jangan panggil saya dengan Guruji, OK, baik coba lihat apa yang dipengaruhinya serta fungsinya di dalam fungsinya sebagai tiga Dewi suci,

   1. Gayatri sebagai lambang penguasa Indra yang melindungi pikiran dan perasaan.

    2. Sawitri sebagai lambang penguasa Prana yang melindungi unsur kehidupan.

    3. Saraswati sebagai lambing penguasa Vicara yang melindungi ucapan/percakapan.

Ketiga hal tersebut di atas yang disebut-disebut Tri Kaya Parisudha, yaitu suci dalam pikiran, perkataan dan perbuatan.

 

Tri Utami: Apa itu Sapta Loka Pak?

ASK: Sapta Loka adalah tujuh alam yang tersembunyi pada Buana Alit, yaitu:

Bhur Loka, Bhuvar Loka, Svah Loka, Maha Loka, Jana Loka, Tapa Loka dan Satya Loka. Ketujuh Loka ini berada di Buana Agung dan berhubungan erat dengan Buana Alit yang berada di dalam diri kita. Penjelasan di atas dapat kita simak melalui mantra ini:

Ya sandhyamandalagata ya trimurti-svarupini

Saraswati ya Savitri tam vande Gayatri Veda mattaram.

"Sang Dewi yang berada pada lingkaran sinarnya matahari, yang adalah berbentuk Tri Murti, yang adalah Saraswati, maupun Savitri hamba mengaturkan sembah kepada Gayatri ibundanya Veda"

 

Ya visva janani devi ya trimurti svarupini

Gayatri rupini ya hi tam vande sapta mattaram.

"Sang Dewi sebagai ibundanya jagat raya, yang berbentuk Tri Murti dalam bentuk Gayatri. Hamba mengaturkan sembah kehadapan-Nya yang berbentuk ibu"

 

Tri Utami: Aku menulis sebuah syair yang ku dapat dalam renunganku, dan sangat mengejutkan ketika ada teman Hindu yang mengatakan bahwa syair itu adalah arti dari Gayatri mantram, dan apa sebenarnya Gayatri itu Pak?

ASK: Gayatri adalah personifikasi seorang Ibu yang Agung dalam kapasitasnya sebagai tiga lambang qualitas seperti: Sattva (Poise), Rajas (Passion), and Tamas (Stupor), yang kemudian Tuhan atau Parabrahman memberi simbol pada ketiga manifestasi sebagai tersebut dengan julukan Brahma, Visnu dan Siwa.

Dan lebih uniknya lagi Brahma di posisikan sebagai Rajas. Visnu di posisikan sebagai Sattva. Siva sebagai Tamas. Ketiga kekuatan tersebut di atas patuh dengan kekuatan Gayatri Dewi sebagai Ibu mereka.

 

Tri Utami: Apa arti harfiah dari Gayatri yang Bapak sebut bait kedua tersebut??

ASK: Perhatikan penjelasan di bawah ini dengan seksama:

   1. AUM BHUR BHUVA SVAHA = merenungi kecemerlangan cahaya yang menerangi tiga dunia; Bumi, Langit dan Surga.

    2. TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM, BHARGO DEVASYA DHEE-MAHEE = membayangkan kecemerlangan, kemegahan dan rahmat yang disinarkan oleh cahaya itu.

    3. DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYATHO = doa memohon pembebasan total melalui pengertian bathin dengan membangun cahaya Illahi yang bersemayam dalam diri manusia.

 

Tri Utami: Tadi sebelumnya Bapak katakan bahwa Maha Gayatri memiliki 3 unsur, what is that?

ASK: I see, that are: 1. Gayatri Sandhya 2. Gayatri Jabam 3.Gayatri Tapa/Meditasi.

 

Tri Utami: Mana yang paling baik Pak?

ASK: Dari ketiga Gayatri tersebut di atas Sandhya Gayatri adalah Gayatri yang paling populer dan yang telah diambil dari Rg Weda Mandala III, Sukta 62, sloka 10, Hal 670.

 

Tri Utami: Kapan sebaiknya dilakukan Sandhya Gayatri?

ASK: Ketika dilakukan sebagai Tri Sandhya.

Pagi hari = Prata Sevana

Siang hari = Madya Sevana

Senja hari = Sandhya Sevana

   1. AUM .

    2. BHUR BHUVA SVAHA.

    3. TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM

    4. BHARGO DEVASYA DHEMAHE

    5. DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODATHO.

Kelima bait di atas juga diyakini sebagai lima wajah Dewi Gayatri yang mewakili Lima Unsur Kehidupan. Dewi Gayatri adalah Dewi Pelindung unsur-unsur kehidupan dalam diri manusia. Hyang Widhi bersabda di dalam Veda, SAMANO MANTRA, yang artinya jadilah satu mantra dengan sejuta fungsi, dan mantra itu adalah Gayatri Japa/Gayatri Jabam. Mantra Gayatri dibaca dengan menggunakan Ganitri (108) serta dapat juga dilakukan sebagai zikir tanpa Ganitri (Japa Mala)

 

Tapa/Meditasi

Menggunakan mantram Gayatri asli yang ditanam di badan Astral melalui ritual – Dhiksa oleh seorang Guru rohani yang menguasainya.

 

Tri Utami: Apakah ada fungsi lain dari Gayatri mantra ini??

ASK: Gayatri adalah sebuah Maha Mantra yang selalu berfungsi seperti yang kita inginkan dan mampu beradaptasi untuk mensucikan apapun yang ingin kita sucikan, seperti: menyucikan air (Tirta) ketika mandi, menyucikan makanan

(Prasatham) ketika makan, menyucikan raga ketika mau tidur dan bangun tidur.

Gayatri juga dapat berguna untuk mengurangi akibat buruk dari kesalahan-kesalahan yang setiap hari kita lakukan tanpa sadar. Tidak akan ada penumpukan hutang Karma buruk, karena setiap hari terhapuskan oleh kekuatan-Nya (Minimizing the Karmic effect) Tri Utami: Apakah kita bisa menjadikan mantra ini sebagai penuntun??

 

ASK: Kenapa tidak, jika mantra ini diterima melalui prosesi yang benar dan oleh Guru Rohani yang benar, maka mantra akan berfungsi sebagai inner guidance (Soko Guru) karena orang yang mendapatkan pembangkitan potensi spiritual diri tersebut setaraf dengan Dwi Jati atau lahir kedua (reborn).

Dua reinkarnasi dalam satu kehidupan karena orang tersebut telah disucikan oleh kekuatan spiritual murni dari Sang Illahi (universal life force energy).

 

Tri Utami: Kalau mantra ini memiliki rahasia yang cukup dalam berarti umat Hindu harus menjaganya dan mempraktekkannya dengan baik??

ASK: Benar Mbak, Gayatri adalah pusaka yang harus kita jaga sepanjang hidup kita, kita boleh melepaskan mantra lainnya tapi jangan melupakan gayatri.

Gayatri adalah kunci rahasia yang mampu melepaskan kita dari marabahaya dimanapun kita berada. Mata dunia tidak mampu mengungkapkan kesempurnaan dan kemegahan dunia spiritual, oleh karenannya Gayatri diberikan kepada kita sebagai indra Illahi untuk menyelami dunia spiritual dan ke-haqiqian Sang Ilahi di semua alam.

 

Tri Utami: Bolehkah saya menggunakannya dalam meditasi dan jam berapa sebaiknya??

ASK: Apakah tidak salah? 'Kan Mbak Tri bukan penganut Hindu?

 

Tri Utami: Benar, tapi boleh dong, karena aku berprinsip Tuhan itu satu tapi ada dimana-mana dan dapat dipanggil dengan banyak nama, setuju kan Pak?

ASK: Pasti setuju, karena di Hindu memang demikian, kalau boleh bercanda, apakah Mbak percaya pada reinkarnasi?

Tri Utami: Percaya, emang kenapa Pak??

ASK: Karena saya melihat bahwa Mbak, seharunya menjadi Biksuni, kok malah jadi penyayi, ha ha ha, baiklah jika memang ingin, meditasi dengan mantram Gayatri harus mengikuti beberapa cara yang telah ditentukan seperti waktu yang baik pagi hari Brahma (Muhurtum) jam 3.30 s/d 6.00 dan sore hari (Sandhya Kala) jam 18.00 s/d 20.00.

Tri Utami: Apakah ada ketentuan, arah menghadap?

ASK: Ada Mbak, seperti yang saya katakana, di dalam Hindu itu lengkap, tapi banyak teman kami yang tidak mau mengikutinya. Pagi hari menghadap matahari terbit (Timur), siang hari menghadap Utara, dan sore hari menghadap mata hari terbenam (Barat).

Tri Utami: Apa yang akan aku dapat jika aku menekuninya?

ASK: Mantram Gayatri akan melahirkan tiga hal jika dilakoni sebagai:

MANTRA = akan menambah kekuatan pikiran dan kebijaksanaan.

STOTRA = sebagai permohonan dan persembahan kepada Tuhan untuk kepentingan dharma agama, keluarga dan dharma negara.

KAVACA = sebagai senjata pelindung bagi kelanggengan dan keharmonisan hidup di kehidupan ini dan kehidupan yang akan datang.

Tri Utami: Dari mana Bapak dapatkan semua penjelasan ini??

ASK: Dari berbagai buku, serta wejangan para Guru Suci saya di India.

Tri Utami: Kapan Guruji akan mengadakan Dhiksa, mohon agar memberitaukanku, karena aku pasti ikut semoga waktunya tidak bentrok dengan jadwalku.

ASK: Baik, tapi kalau masih memanggilku dengan Guruji, maka aku tidak akan men-Dhiksa Mbak, Ha…ha ha, dan ngomong-ngomong, boleh kah percakapan kita ini aku muat di Media Hindu, biar banyak yang termotivasi?

Gandhi's Top 10 Fundamentals for Change

 

Mahatma Gandhi needs no long introduction. Everyone knows about the man who lead the Indian people to independence from British rule in 1947. So let's just move on to some of my favourite tips from Mahatma Gandhi.

 

1. Change yourself. "You must be the change you want to see in the world."

 

"As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world - that is the myth of the atomic age - as in being able to remake ourselves."

 

If you change yourself you will change your world. If you change how you think then you will change how you feel and what actions you take. And so the world around you will change. Not only because you are now viewing your environment through new lenses of thoughts and emotions but also because the change within can allow you to take action in ways you wouldn't have - or maybe even have thought about - while stuck in your old thought patterns.

 

And the problem with changing your outer world without changing yourself is that you will still be you when you reach that change you have strived for. You will still have your flaws, anger, negativity, self-sabotaging tendencies etc. intact.

 

And so in this new situation you will still not find what you hoped for since your mind is still seeping with that negative stuff. And if you get more without having some insight into and distance from your ego it may grow more powerful. Since your ego loves to divide things, to find enemies and to create separation it may start to try to create even more problems and conflicts in your life and world.

 

2. You are in control. "Nobody can hurt me without my permission."

 

What you feel and how you react to something is always up to you. There may be a "normal" or a common way to react to different things. But that's mostly just all it is.

 

You can choose your own thoughts, reactions and emotions to pretty much everything. You don't have to freak out, overreact of even react in a negative way. Perhaps not every time or instantly. Sometimes a knee-jerk reaction just goes off. Or an old thought habit kicks in.

 

And as you realize that no-one outside of yourself can actually control how you feel you can start to incorporate this thinking into your daily life and develop it as a thought habit. A habit that you can grow stronger and stronger over time. Doing this makes life a whole lot easier and more pleasurable.

 

3. Forgive and let it go. "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."

 

"An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind."

 

Fighting evil with evil won't help anyone. And as said in the previous tip, you always choose how to react to something. When you can incorporate such a thought habit more and more into your life then you can react in a way that is more useful to you and others.

 

You realize that forgiving and letting go of the past will do you and the people in your world a great service. And spending your time in some negative memory won't help you after you have learned the lessons you can learn from that experience. You'll probably just cause yourself more suffering and paralyze yourself from taking action in this present moment.

 

If you don't forgive then you let the past and another person to control how you feel. By forgiving you release yourself from those bonds. And then you can focus totally on, for instance, the next point.

 

4. Without action you aren't going anywhere. "An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching."

 

Without taking action very little will be done. However, taking action can be hard and difficult. There can be much inner resistance.

 

And so you may resort to preaching, as Gandhi says. Or reading and studying endlessly. And feeling like you are moving forward. But getting little or no practical results in real life.

 

So, to really get where you want to go and to really understand yourself and your world you need to practice. Books can mostly just bring you knowledge. You have to take action and translate that knowledge into results and understanding.

 

5. Take care of this moment. "I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following."

 

The best way that I have found to overcome the inner resistance that often stops us from taking action is to stay in the present as much as possible and to be accepting.

 

Why? Well, when you are in the present moment you don't worry about the next moment that you can't control anyway. And the resistance to action that comes from you imagining negative future consequences - or reflecting on past failures - of your actions loses its power. And so it becomes easier to both take action and to keep your focus on this moment and perform better.

 

How can you reconnect with the present moment? One of the simplest ways is to focus on your breathing for a minute or two. Just those breaths in and out and nothing else. By doing so you align yourself with the present moment and what is happening right now again.

 

And remember that reconnecting with and staying in the now is a mental habit - a sort of muscle - that you grow. Over time it becomes more powerful and makes it easier to slip into the present moment.

 

6. Everyone is human. "I claim to be a simple individual liable to err like any other fellow mortal. I own, however, that I have humility enough to confess my errors and to retrace my steps."

 

"It is unwise to be too sure of one's own wisdom. It is healthy to be reminded that the strongest might weaken and the wisest might err."

 

When you start to make myths out of people - even though they may have produced extraordinary results - you run the risk of becoming disconnected from them. You can start to feel like you could never achieve similar things that they did because they are so very different. So it's important to keep in mind that everyone is just a human being no matter who they are.

 

And I think it's important to remember that we are all human and prone to make mistakes. Holding people to unreasonable standards will only create more unnecessary conflicts in your world and negativity within you.

 

It's also important to remember this to avoid falling into the pretty useless habit of beating yourself up over mistakes that you have made. And instead be able to see with clarity where you went wrong and what you can learn from your mistake. And then try again.

 

7. Persist. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

 

Be persistent. In time the opposition around you will fade and fall away. And your inner resistance and self-sabotaging tendencies that want to hold you back and keep you like you have always been will grow weaker.

 

Find what you really like to do. Then you'll find the inner motivation to keep going, going and going.

 

One reason Gandhi was so successful with his method of non-violence was because he and his followers were so persistent. They just didn't give up.

 

Success or victory will seldom come as quickly as you would have liked it to. I think one of the reasons people don't get what they want is simply because they give up too soon. The time they think an achievement will require isn't the same amount of time it usually takes to achieve that goal. This faulty belief partly comes from the world we live in. A world full of magic pill solutions where advertising continually promises us that we can lose a lot of weight or earn a ton of money in just 30 days.

 

Finally, one useful tip to keep your persistence going is to listen to Gandhi's third quote in this article and keep a sense of humor. It can lighten things up at the toughest of times.

 

8. See the good in people and help them. "I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won't presume to probe into the faults of others." "Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow-men." "I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people."

 

There is pretty much always something good in people. And things that may not be so good. But you can choose what things to focus on. And if you want improvement then focusing on the good in people is a useful choice. It also makes life easier for you as your world and relationships become more pleasant and positive.

 

And when you see the good in people it becomes easier to motivate yourself to be of service to them. By being of service to other people, by giving them value you not only make their lives better. Over time you tend to get what you give. And the people you help may feel more inclined to help other people. And so you, together, create an upward spiral of positive change that grows and becomes stronger.

 

By strengthening your social skills you can become a more influential person and make this upward spiral even stronger.

 

9. Be congruent, be authentic, be your true self. "Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." "Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well."

 

I think that one of the best tips for improving your social skills is to behave in a congruent manner and communicate in an authentic way. People seem to really like authentic communication. And there is much inner enjoyment to be found when your thoughts, words and actions are aligned. You feel powerful and good about yourself.

 

When words and thoughts are aligned then that shows through in your communication. Because now you have your voice tonality and body language - some say they are over 90 percent of communication - in alignment with your words.

 

With these channels in alignment people tend to really listen to what you're saying. You are communicating without incongruency, mixed messages or perhaps a sort of phoniness.

 

Also, if your actions aren't in alignment with what you're communicating then you start to hurt your own belief in what you can do. And other people's belief in you too.

 

10. Continue to grow and evolve. "Constant development is the law of life, and a man who always tries to maintain his dogmas in order to appear consistent drives himself into a false position."

 

You can pretty much always improve your skills, habits or re-evaluate your evaluations. You can gain deeper understanding of yourself and the world.

 

Sure, you may look inconsistent or like you don't know what you are doing from time to time. You may have trouble to act congruently or to communicate authentically. But if you don't then you will, as Gandhi says, drive yourself into a false position. A place where you try to uphold or cling to your old views to appear consistent while you realise within that something is wrong. It's not a fun place to be. To choose to grow and evolve is a happier and more useful path to take.

Advice for student wishing to pursue higher education:

One of the most important thing that you can do as a young student is to improve the standard of your written and spoken English. If you are proficient in other languages like Chinese, that's great because it means you might be able to work in China (many multi national corporations are setting up base in big cities in China like Shanghai and Beijing). But even if one is proficient in another language, a person should never neglect his or her standard of English. A good command of the English language can only help you advance in your studies and career. Good English enables you to work in international companies and to be able to communicate with overseas colleagues effectively and with confidence.

So what can you do to improve your written and spoken English? Some suggestions include:
1. Read English newspapers every day. It is shocking how some students do not read the newspapers and are totally ignorant about the world.

2. You should also read English language periodicals like Time Magazine and News week. Once your English proficiency improves, try reading the Economist as well. If you can afford it, subscribe to these magazines. If you can't afford the subscription fees, then go to the library on a regular basis to read these magazines. As you read the articles – make a mental note on how the reporters write and structure their articles.

3. If you don't have access to a library or can't afford the magazines, read high quality online newspapers like;
Times of London
, New York Times
, the Guardian
etc on a regular basis. Don't waste too much time on the Net reading useless and childish blogs (of course, there are some blogs that are well-written).

4. Practise writing essays. If you have a blog, try writing in proper sentences instead of in SMS style.

5. Join debating clubs. Even if you don't like to talk in front of strangers, you should do it. Debates will force you to articulate your thoughts and train you to speak in front of strangers.
